Neverwinter: The Year of Deep Water Drifting
The High Road
The High Road is the inland trade route that stretches from Waterdeep in the south to Luskan in the north, passing though Leilon, Neverwinter and Port Llast.
Numerous bandits – the most common races being human, orc and bugbear – threaten travellers on the High Road. They typically lair in the ruined cities and settlements of Luskan, Port Llast and Leilon but some base themselves in the Neverwinter Wood and also the Sword Mountains. They are held in check by the Zhents who are known to kill bandits by securing their bodies to wagon wheels and leaving them for the various scavengers in the area. Many a leucrotta or peryton from the Sword Mountains has enjoyed this gruesome feast.
The best organised are the bandit lords of Iniarv’s Tower (qv) although a band of elves who are members of the Eldreth Veluuthra are probably the most dangerous. As the latter’s raids are infrequent – and their rangers take great care, as only an elf can, to remove all signs of their presence – merchants and other users of the High Road are not aware of the threat they pose.
